About the role

Thiess is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in supporting both our day-to-day payroll operations and our ongoing Payroll Transformation Projects. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring our HCM/Payroll systems and end-to-end processes evolve to meet the changing needs of our business. As a key member of our team, you will drive continuous improvements across payroll systems, business processes, and compliance measures. Your subject matter expertise will be invaluable as you contribute to a wide range of initiatives and projects that shape the future of our payroll operations.

Additionally, you will:    

  • Build, maintain, and prioritise the backlog of Change Requests to ensure payroll systems are updated efficiently and in compliance with regulations. 

  • Partner with Industrial Relations, IT, and the Payroll Service Provider to accurately interpret and implement payroll system configurations related to Awards and Enterprise Agreements. 

  • Maintain time and attendance/payroll rules, core data, and conduct regular audits to ensure ongoing compliance and accuracy within payroll systems. 

  • Analyse complex pay queries, identify discrepancies, and drive process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy. 

  • Maintain essential documentation and support payroll leaders with reports, reconciliations, and audits while staying updated on changes in payroll legislation. 

 

About you

 

As an ideal candidate for this Payroll Specialist role, you bring a wealth of experience in handling highly complex payroll issues. Your expertise in defining payroll system configuration requirements ensures accurate interpretation and application of Awards and Enterprise Agreements. With a demonstrated understanding of payroll and time and attendance systems functionality, you excel at configuring these systems to meet diverse business requirements. Your experience in interpreting legislation, Awards, and EAs, coupled with a strong working knowledge of the Fair Work Act and other relevant regulations, allows you to ensure appropriate systems configuration and process design. Your track record in identifying and implementing improvements to payroll processes showcases your commitment to efficiency and accuracy. Complementing your technical skills are highly developed analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, making you an invaluable asset to any payroll team. 

Additionally, you have:  

  • Business and/or HR Degree, or equivalent qualifications / experience 

  • 2 to 5 years' experience in E2E payroll management in medium / large organisations 

  • Exposure to Oracle HRIS and/or Preceda payroll is desirable  

  • Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel to Intermediate standard (minimum)
