What you’ll do

As Legal Counsel, you will have a critical role in delivering innovative and solution-focused legal advice across key areas, including strategic partnerships, asset services, global procurement, and treasury-related initiatives. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, including the CEO, CFO, and other executive stakeholders, as well as external regulators, banks, and strategic partners. This is a dynamic position that requires balancing commercial drivers with professional integrity to achieve "best for business" outcomes.

Key Responsibilities may include

  • Practical & Commercial Advice: Deliver pragmatic, innovative, and commercially driven legal advice on a range of areas  including procurement, IP, financing, leasing, and asset services, while navigating legal, regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Drafting & Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and documents related to group corporate and operations initiatives. Simplify complex agreements into guidance documents or manuals for training purposes. Update the corporate suite of documents.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with stakeholders, including board members, regulatory bodies, financial institutions, external law firms, and internal teams such as operations, procurement, other corporate functions and ELT members.
  • Training & Education: Prepare and deliver tailored training sessions, ensuring legal concepts are presented in an approachable and easy-to-understand format.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We are seeking a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Education: A law degree and admission to practice (+3-5 years’ experience); a current practicing certificate is a plus.
  • Experience: External law firm and/or in-house legal experience (preferably in the resources/mining sector).
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation, drafting, and relationship management abilities.
    • Excellent commercial acumen and a detailed understanding of practical legal and regulatory frameworks across a range of commercial areas, such as mining, resources or related industries.
    • Proven ability to work well within a team as well as autonomously when required.
    • Capable and willing to work in demanding environments.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft tools, including PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint.

Additionally, you’ll demonstrate exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with integrity and professionalism. A good grasp of asset management and finance principles, combined with your ability to navigate complex agreements, will further ensure your success in this role.
