About the role

Thiess is currently recruiting a Senior Project Engineer for the Tailings Storage Facility at our Eva Copper Mine Project, located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People, 75 kilometres north of Cloncurry and 95 kilometres north-east of Mount Isa.

This role is being offered as a max-term contract of 12-18 months, providing a great opportunity to be part of an exciting new project!

We strongly encourage locals in Northwest Queensland, including members of the Kalkadoon community and other First Nations people, to apply for this role on a BIBO basis. Depending on the successful candidate's location, the role can also be offered on a FIFO roster from Brisbane, with on-site accommodation provided.

Reporting to the Principal Civil Engineer, you will provide onsite construction engineering support ensuring the safe execution of the Project.

Key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Contributing to or leading the design, assessment, and review of tailings storage facilities and related infrastructure
  • Supporting technical analysis, including geotechnical, civil, or hydrological modelling
  • Preparing high-quality reports, designs, and project documentation
  • Leading or contributing to site investigations, inspections, and audits
  • Supporting or managing client relationships, project delivery, and proposal development
  • Providing mentorship to junior staff and contributing to a culture of technical excellence and collaboration
  • Engaging with multidisciplinary teams including water, environmental, geotech, and mine planning professionals

About you

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in construction of Tailing Dam (2+ years will be considered) 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers or supervisors
  • Strong focus on governance, reporting and delivery performance
  • Ability to manage safety, schedule and cost effectively
  • Confident communicator with solid stakeholder management skills
  • Australian work rights are required for this position
