The Opportunity

Reporting to the Group Executive, Asia, the General Manager Mining Indonesia is responsible for leading Thiess Indonesia’s mining operations, providing strategic leadership and governance to drive safe, sustainable, and profitable business performance, while delivering long-term value for clients, employees, shareholders, and other stakeholders.

 

As the [Position Title], you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and stewardship of Thiess Indonesia Mining Operations, driving sustainable growth, operational excellence, and alignment with Thiess Indonesia and Asia business objectives.
  • Lead the overall performance of the business, ensuring the delivery of agreed financial, commercial, production, and operational outcomes, including revenue growth, profitability, cash flow, asset utilisation, and contract performance.
  • Provide executive oversight of governance, risk management, compliance, and business systems, ensuring adherence to all legal, regulatory, contractual, and Thiess standards while fostering a culture of accountability and ethical leadership.
  • Drive a high-performance culture focused on safety, operational excellence, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer outcomes, ensuring projects consistently deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable results.
  • Build, develop, and lead a capable leadership team, establishing clear accountability, succession planning, workforce capability, and talent development strategies to support long-term business success.
  • Strengthen and maintain strategic relationships with clients, government agencies, industry bodies, suppliers, communities, and other key stakeholders, enhancing Thiess’s reputation and positioning the business for future opportunities.
  • Lead business development and growth initiatives, identifying market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and tender opportunities while leveraging Thiess’s global capability and regional networks to secure future work.
  • Ensure financial discipline and commercial excellence across the Division, including budgeting, capital allocation, cost control, procurement governance, contract compliance, and effective risk management.
  • Champion responsible environmental, social, and community outcomes, promoting sustainable business practices, diversity and inclusion, community engagement, and Thiess’s commitment to responsible mining.
  • Act as a senior ambassador for Thiess, fostering collaboration, innovation, knowledge sharing, and resource mobility across Indonesia, Asia, and the broader Thiess organisation.

 

About you

  • A seasoned leader with extensive experience in mining operations and financial management.
  • A degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline (highly desirable).
  • Proven success in cross-cultural environments and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working in Indonesia or the broader Asian region is highly regarded.
  • Experience in mobilising and managing hard rock mining operations in Indonesia is highly regarded.
  • A Strong communicator with a strategic mindset and ability to inspire teams.
  • Skilled in negotiation, strategic decision-making, and client relationships development.
