Work with a team of the best

With a global business, we offer diverse and rewarding careers. We are committed to Thiess being a company and a culture where great people can excel and where they are developed and supported to reach their highest potential. Join our team today.

Thiess is excited to be expanding operations at Mount Arthur South with a newly awarded 6-year contract and the introduction of a modern Liebherr excavator fleet. We’re building a high-performing maintenance team and we’re looking for a skilled and driven Maintenance Equipment Inspector – Excavators to play a key role in lifting performance and reliability across our fleet.

About the role

This is a hands-on, forward-looking role ideal for someone who’s passionate about asset condition monitoring, defect prevention, and setting maintenance teams up for success.

As a Maintenance Equipment Inspector, you’ll be the "eyes and ears" of our maintenance strategy—working closely with supervisors and planners to identify defects before they cause downtime. You’ll be instrumental in supporting our planning and execution teams with accurate technical insights, high-quality defect documentation, and effective communication to keep our equipment running safely and reliably.

Reporting to the Field Maintenance Superintendent, your responsibilities will include:

· Conducting routine inspections of Liebherr excavators (R9800, R9600, R996B, R9400, R9350)

· Identifying, documenting, and escalating defects with detailed notes and photos

· Collaborating with planners to assign appropriate labour, cost-effective parts, and accurate timelines to work orders

· Assisting with parts organisation and transport needs for time-critical tasks

· Supporting continuous improvement in defect turnaround, asset health, and reliability

· Supporting the development and prioritisation of an accurate forward log of maintenance activities and upcoming work.

You’ll also contribute to building a proactive maintenance schedule that avoids unplanned downtime, optimises service duration, and keeps our fleet operating at its best between maintenance windows.

What You'll Bring

· Heavy Diesel Fitter, Plant Mechanic, or related trade qualification

· Experience working with Liebherr or other large excavator OEMs in mining environments

· Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities with a sharp eye for detail

· Confident communicator with a safety-first mindset

· Proactive work ethic and ability to influence planned work outcomes

· Familiarity with digital maintenance systems

· Valid Australian manual driver’s licence (HR licence desirable)

· High Risk Work Licences (desirable): EWP, Forklift, Working at Heights

Why Thiess?

· Work with a highly respected maintenance team on a cutting-edge fleet

· Be part of a major long-term contract with room to grow

· Monday to Friday roster – work/life balance while making an impact

· Genuine career development pathways across Thiess Group

· Access to a wide range of employee benefits, wellbeing support, and professional development resources
