The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the preferred contractor for construction, which will begin in 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets.

About the Opportunity

To support the delivery of the West Gate Tunnel Project we are looking for a Junior Engineer to join our Precast Manufacturing team in Benalla. We are looking for a driven, ambitious and resilient individual who can assist with the onsite engineering services and technical support in the planning, support and reporting to ensure short term planning and programming of works is completed in conjunction with the site supervision staff.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the largest Precast Manufacturing Facility in Australia and be part of the team supporting the West Gate Tunnel Project. During peak production, up to 1500 tonnes of concrete per day will be produced with a workforce of up to 300 people.

Typical Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deliver a scope of work in accordance with activities, project plans or specifications for work that is planned for
  • Ensure that the obligations of every individual to have a duty of care for people, community, Safety, Quality, Environment etc. are supported
  • Ensure that controls required by the SEP, TRA and ITP are ready to implement
  • Use established procedures, gather and correlate basic data and perform detailed or routine engineering duties
  • Use effective problem solving techniques and skills especially as it relates to delivery of outcomes
  • Ability to read and understand plans, review design documentation to provide constructability review and implement final plans
  • Procure materials and services that comply with specifications, drawings and Environment standards
  • Identify report, investigate and resolve all non-conformances and take measures to correct and prevent recurrence
  • Assign work to technicians and check results, but not on continuing supervisory basis
  • Measure plan costs, efficiencies, yields and quality of product as directed
  • Work with team members to ensure precast items are manufactured correctly, safely and within budget
  • Identify and recognise risks prior to work commencing and communicate to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure all activities comply with legal, professional and ethical standards
  • Perform all duties in accordance with CPBJH policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures
  • Utilise effective time management skills, including sequencing of own work of own and resource time management
  • Execute working knowledge of contractual PSR, Project Scope & Requirements

What you'll need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management
  • Qualifications and training relevant to the Region, Business Unit or project
  • Drivers Licence
  • Relevant work experience in area of expertise as per University/course requirements, e.g. 90-120 days for Engineering
  • Work towards professional experience
  • Technical competency, understanding, experience or commitment to the area that wish to work in, e.g. construction experience
