Systems Connect (an unincorporated Joint Venture between CPB Contractors and UGL Engineering) is delivering the Line-wide Works (LW Works) package Sydney Metro City & Southwest (SMCSW) project, which will extend Sydney Metro Northwest to the CBD and beyond to Bankstown. SMCSW being delivered through a suite of contracts for the tunnels, stations, line-wide infrastructure and systems.

The Line-wide works package is a key component of the SMCSW with works taking place over the full length of the Project area. The package includes:

  • The fit out of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest tunnels and stations including provision of track, overhead wiring, HV reticulation, tunnel ventilation, fire services tunnel services
  • Delivery of bulk power feeds to meet the Sydney Metro City & Southwest high voltage reticulation and traction power requirements
  • Expansion of the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Tallawong
  • The delivery of a new train stabling and infrastructure maintenance facility at Sydenham
  • The open northern dive works to tie Sydney Metro City & Southwest into the Sydney Metro Northwest at Chatswood
  • Provision of HV reticulation and traction power for the Southwest corridor from Sydenham to Bankstown.

Your opportunity 

This role will see you working out of the North Sydney Project Management Office (PMO) for Sydney Metro City & Southwest, where Systems Connect is collocated with Sydney Metro and design teams.

You Will Accountable For
Working closely with the Engineering and Delivery Managers, the Senior Sustainability Advisor will be an integral member of the Project Team. 

Reporting to Environment and Sustainability Manager, will be responsible for:

  • Managing the delivery of the LW Works Package IS rating to achieve and strive to exceed the commitment of a Design and As Built, version 1.2 Leading outcome.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Contract sustainability requirements
  • Reporting of sustainability performance to Senior Management and the Client, in line with commitments in the Sustainability Management Plan.
  • Driving implementation of innovative Environment & Sustainability initiatives in line with specific Innovation KPIs with the Client.
  • Ensuring that sustainability requirements, targets and initiatives are embedded into design, procurement and construction activities.
  • Provide direction and mentoring to the Sustainability Coordinator and Graduates
  • Maintaining and Implementing a Sustainability Management Plan
  • Achieving the Contractual requirements for the Design and As-Built verification, through design and construction rating certifications.
  • Managing inputs from the design team and specialist consultants to deliver specialist studies, including Climate Change Risk Assessment, Life Cycle Assessment, Energy and Greenhouse Gas Assessment, and Water Balance assessment.
  • Developing and maintaining a collaborative, positive and value-add relationship with the Client and their agents and ISCA appointed representatives, as well as the design and construction key team members.

Minimum requirements of the role are:

  • A degree in a relevant environmental, social or economic field, at least 5 years’ professional experience in sustainability management.
  • ISAP accreditation is required.
  • Ability to influence people, nurture relationships and upskill non- subject matter experts and peers alike
  • Practical experience in delivering design and as built ratings. Employment history that includes major construction projects is preferable
  • Innovation, enthusiasm and lateral thinking
  • Technical expertise in the following areas is highly desirable for this role but not mandatory; energy and greenhouse gas assessment, climate change risk assessment, life cycle assessment
