The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the preferred contractor for construction, which will begin in 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets.

About the Opportunity

To support the delivery of the West Gate Tunnel Project we are looking for a number of Design Coordinators with previous experience in tendering project delivery. The Design Coordinators will be required to assist in managing the design delivery process by coordinating design management activities to maximise the winning of work or delivery of successful project outcomes.

This role will be for a fixed term duration of 6 months with the view of extension and will be based 50/50 at the Melbourne project office and the Benalla precast facility in regional Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the largest Precast Manufacturing Facility in Australia and be part of the team supporting the West Gate Tunnel Project.  During peak production, up to 1500 tonnes of concrete per day will be produced with a workforce of up to 300 people.

Typical Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Engineering Manager to plan and control the delivery of project design to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and profit objectives
  • Work to ensure the efficient and timely completion of the Benalla Precast facility; ensuring that the facility is set up to be capable of making all of the elements required by the Project
  • Coordinate the interaction of project members in the design delivery process, including design, construction, planning and environmental resources
  • Monitor and evaluate the work of designers allocated to the project to ensure that their progress meets requirements
  • Assist in the design approval process by coordinating issue resolution
  • Work in conjunction with the Engineering Manager around project resourcing
  • Assist with client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the project team
  • Manage work and performance of subcontractors with design responsibility
  • Work in conjunction with the Engineering Manager in the development of design budgets and schedules
  • Collate information and report against budgets
  • Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements
  • Perform duties in accordance with CPBJH JV processes, systems and procedures

What you'll need to succeed

  • A Degree in Engineering or a similar field
  • 4 years’ experience in the field of tendering project delivery
  • Multi-discipline project experience desirable in Construction and Design
  • Tertiary (Bachelor) qualification in Engineering or a similar field
  • Awareness of people management processes
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specifications, standards and implications for project accountabilities
