Tunnel Senior Project Engineer- Sydney Metro, Western Sydney Airport

CPB Contractors in joint venture with Ghella have been selected by the NSW Government to deliver to deliver the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport Station Boxes and Tunnelling Works (WSA-SBT). The project will involve the design and construction of a new metro tunnel around 9.8 kilometres in length between St Marys in the north and the Aerotropolis Core precinct in the south.

The design and construction scope includes the following:

  • two sections of twin running, tunnel boring machines, tunnels with a total combined length of approximately 9.8 km, plus associated portal dive structures and tunnel support activities  
  • station box excavations with temporary ground support at St Marys, Orchard Hills, Western Sydney Airport Terminal, Western Sydney Aerotropolis and two intermediate service facilities, one in each of the tunnel sections. 

Major works are scheduled to commence in 2022 and continue until 2025.

Your opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Tunnel Senior Project Engineer to manage and provide direction to the project team to deliver the project in accordance with the specified requirements and client expectations.

The key requirements of the role include:

  • Managing the effective set-up, delivery and completion of the project including establishing relevant systems
  • Managing and monitoring the completion of the project to ensure programme, budget, quality, environmental and contractual obligations are achieved and taking prompt corrective action where required
  • Preparing accurate project reports and monitoring KPIs and productivity analysis against programme and budget
  • Reviewing design and construction plans, schedules, temporary works designs, method statements and job safety analysis and quality
  • Effectively assigning tasks to project team members to deliver the required outputs to agreed specifications
  • Ensuring role clarity, including responsibilities and reporting lines, exists for team members
  • Developing broader succession planning outcomes
  • Ensuring the project is adequately resourced to deliver project requirements in the with the programme and contractual agreements
  • Understanding and reporting on project risks and opportunities
  • Liaising with the client, managers from subcontractor organisations, and site employees

We are looking for someone with:

  • A recognised degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant tertiary qualification
  • Minimum 7 years relevant experience in delivery of working on, and delivery on, key infrastructure projects
  • Experience with developing methodologies to ensure compliance with the scope of works and technical criteria
  • Demonstrated commercial experience to include planning up to 3 months ahead, weekly reporting on progress against plan and cost, reporting on risk and developing and implementing risk treatment plans
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
