About North East Link  

The Spark Consortium has been selected for the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project. 
  
The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project. 

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads. 

Please be advised that this project is a large scale T1 project with potential for 24/7 shift work, whilst we will aim for weekend work to be split fairly between employees there may be role requirements on occasion for evening shift work. 

About the Opportunity 

As a Senior Project Engineer – Buildings Steel & Façade, you will be an integral part of the project management team and will be required to Coordinate on-site engineering functions for the Building Scope to achieve time and budget objectives and provide guidance and leadership for construction activities. 

Position Specific Responsibilities include: 

  • Manage Structural Steel and Façade Design and Construct Contractor 

  • Use value engineering to deliver design for Steel and Façade to meet Project targets for safety, program and cost  

  • Coordinate external and internal stakeholders to resolve conflict and achieve Project targets

  • Review Construction and Work packages, with approved ITP’s and Checklist

  • Monitor and prepare project progress report for wider team, client and building surveyor 

  • Plan, Enforce and implement Spark Safety standards on site 

Key Accountabilities include: 

  • Work in accordance with and demonstrate personal commitment to Spark NEL DC’s culture, and values 

  • Act in accordance with Spark NEL DC’s policies, procedures and requirements relating to proper business and interpersonal conduct 

  • Actively assist and value-add to Spark’s social procurement strategy 

  • Actively seek opportunities to employ priority jobseekers and to procure goods and services from Aboriginal businesses and social enterprises 

  • Obtain relevant design parameter information for incorporation into detailed designs and construction specifications 

  • Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check work drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary 

  • Supervise and coordinate the construction activities for buildings within the project. Monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure that the work is carried out according to the approved design, budget, and schedule 

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of project activities, including design changes, construction progress, and budget updates. Prepare regular reports for management and stakeholders 

  • Ensure project engineering completion is on time and within budget 

  • Record completed work, costs incurred, materials used and retain progress drawings 

  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work 

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to the One HSEQ Culture Framework and the Life Saving Rules and Management System requirements and expectations 

  • Develop and maintain an awareness of HSEQ hazards and associated risks and demonstrate a commitment to eliminate or minimise those risks 

  • Ensure that all necessary permits and approvals related to building construction are obtained

  • Stay up to date with local building codes and regulations 

  • Understand and effectively undertake HSEQ accountabilities 

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and all relevant Company and Group policies and processes 

Minimum requirements for this role are: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred

  • 10 years of progressive experience in project management and engineering within the building construction industry

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
