  • Lead Aurizon's new national Inventory Management function.
  • Shape inventory strategy and governance across a critical national supply chain.
  • Drive SAP S/4HANA inventory transformation and optimisation initiatives.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and strategically minded National Inventory Manager to establish and lead Aurizon's new Inventory Management function within Procurement & Enterprise Services (PES).

This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and embedding Aurizon's national inventory strategy, governance framework and performance standards across a complex, asset-intensive business. Working closely with Asset Management & Strategy, Business Unit leaders, Procurement, Category Management and Finance, you'll drive improvements in inventory performance while balancing asset availability, operational risk and working capital outcomes.

You will play a key role in supporting Aurizon's transition to SAP S/4HANA and establishing the governance, capability and reporting frameworks required to optimise inventory management across the organisation.

About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Procurement & Enterprise Services, you will:

  • Develop and own Aurizon's national inventory strategy, policies, standards and risk tolerances.
  • Establish and lead a new Inventory Management team, defining capability, structure and ways of working.
  • Design and embed standard inventory management processes across the organisation.
  • Drive inventory optimisation initiatives, including governance of MRP parameters, inventory segmentation and master data integrity.
  • Support inventory and master data readiness as part of Aurizon's SAP S/4HANA transformation.
  • Partner with maintenance planning teams to strengthen inventory forecasting and demand planning.
  • Manage critical spare parts strategies, including long lead-time, end-of-life and safety-critical materials.
  • Develop enterprise-wide inventory reporting, performance measures and governance frameworks.
  • Build inventory capability across the business through training, standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements while identifying value creation and cost optimisation opportunities.

About you:

You're a strategic supply chain leader with deep inventory management expertise and a track record of improving performance in complex operational environments. You excel at influencing stakeholders, driving change and delivering commercial outcomes without direct authority.

To be successful you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as APICS/ASCM, CPSM or CIPS (highly regarded).
  • More than 10 years' experience in supply chain and inventory management, including significant experience in senior inventory leadership positions.
  • Experience working within asset-intensive, safety-critical industries such as rail, mining, heavy industry, transport, utilities, manufacturing or engineering environments.
  • Strong expertise in inventory optimisation, MRP governance and inventory analytics.
  • Advanced SAP MM/PM knowledge, including inventory governance and control parameters.
  • Experience leveraging business intelligence tools such as Power BI to drive decision-making.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and change leadership capabilities.
  • A commitment to safety excellence and continuous improvement.
