Spotless (a Downer Group company) holds Facilities Maintenance and Management Services Contracts with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). We have a newly created Environmental Manager role, based in Wellington, that will lead environmental compliance on our Contracts and deliver best practice environmental support and guidance to our teams working at site.
We are looking for someone with plenty of energy and pace to help us deliver a superior environmental compliance service to our customers. You will be recently qualified in an environmental discipline to at least NZQA Level 4. This won’t be your first rodeo! You are looking for your next career move, following a few years practice in another organisation.
You will be equally at home behind a desk or in the field. Travel to our sites located in the lower Central North Island and the South Island is a must.
Reporting to the National Asset and Compliance Manager, you will provide technical support, coaching, and mentoring to the site-based operations teams and help ensure both RMA compliance and compliance to Environmental Legislation across our business.

You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment, and be passionate about environmental management. With a natural ability to influence a diverse groups of stakeholders, you will build and strengthen key relationships across the business.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A formal qualification in an Environmental discipline to at least NZQA Level 4.
- 2-3 years’ practical application and implementation of environmental process and disciplines in an operations environment.
- An understanding of RMA requirements and other NZ Environmental Legislation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be a team player, who is also able to work autonomously.
- Be a problem solver, have initiative and be willing to drive change.
- Have intermediate IT skills, especially Excel and Word.
- Have a current driver’s licence.
