The Particle Physics group at Monash University seeks to appoint an outstanding individual to work within the recently established Monash Warwick Alliance in Particle Physics (MWAPP).
The goals of MWAPP are to bring together and build upon expertise at Monash and Warwick in theoretical and experimental particle physics, to advance the field and to develop necessary tools for future progress. This will include analysis of data collected by the LHCb experiment, testing the Standard Model and searching for evidence of phenomena beyond it. MWAPP also aims to develop simulation software, such as the Pythia and EvtGen packages, as appropriate for the needs of the field in the next decade and beyond.
The successful candidate will take a prominent role in MWAPP. You will join the group’s activity in the LHCb project, and will contribute to both physics analysis and software development. You should have, or should be about to obtain, a PhD in experimental particle physics or another relevant subject. You will have a good grounding in and general knowledge of particle physics. Experience of modern data analysis techniques for particle physics experiments and ability to work with the C++ and Python programming languages are required. You will be an excellent communicator capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a research team. You will possess excellent planning and time management skills to ensure your research objectives are achieved effectively.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
The position is available for an initial fixed term of two years with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. The post will be based at Monash with travel to Warwick and CERN as necessary.
