A competitive remuneration package, including base salary, generous 17% superannuation, remote site allowance, overtime, and additional other provisions and travel support , will be provided.
Headquartered at Monash University in Melbourne, with an operational footprint Australia-wide, the Maintenance Technology Institute (MTI) is a commercially orientated, professional research and engineering organisation that has been providing professional engineering services to major mining companies; such as BHP, Rio Tinto, Glencore, and Anglo American since 2000.
Due to sustained growth, we are now seeking to add your engineering and technical skill to the team in Western Australia in the role of Field Instrumentation Technician.
In this position, you will be based in Perth and will collaborate with MTI staff and mining staff in order to carry out fieldwork on remote mining sites across Western Australia, working closely with senior engineers and mine site staff you will help deliver high impact, real-time monitoring systems on heavy engineering equipment used in the mining industry.
Your focus will include:
- Undertaking installations and maintenance of proprietary hardware and software, sensors and cabling on mining equipment
- Perform diagnostics and provide sound and timely technical advice and support
- Working closely with clients, contractors and other staff to coordinate installation and maintenance activities
- Provide these services on client mine sites
- Travel Regularly to remote Client mine sites across Western Australia to engage in these and other work activities
About you
The role ideally would suit a candidate who is a hands-on technician with a strong technical foundation and the drive to learn.
We’re looking for:
- Background in electrical, electronics, instrumentation, automotive, auto electrician or cabling trades,
- Trade qualification (e.g. Certificate IV, Diploma, Apprenticeship)
- Strong teamwork, flexibility, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work autonomously and at times on remote mine sites
- Willingness to travel on a regular basis and perform shift work as needed
- Experience working on heavy equipment or in remote environments is not necessary but may be highly regarded

We offer a competitive remuneration package that includes base salary, generous 17% superannuation, remote site allowance, commuted overtime, overtime and other additional provisions. While the initial contract is for 12 months, there is a strong likelihood of extension beyond this term. This role is a full-time position, and will be required to perform shift work whilst on site in accordance with project task requirements, however, some flexible working arrangements may be negotiable.
