This exciting role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in digital sociology, ethnographic methods, and human-AI relationships.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct research, analysis, and publication targeting diverse audiences, including industry, policy, and public sectors
  • Review relevant literature and engage with sociological theory to understand the role of “cute” home helper robots in Australian households
  • Undertake design and digital ethnographic research with Australian households living with these robots
  • Collaborate within a research team to produce accessible reports, videos, and academic publications
  • Disseminate research findings through industry- and government-friendly materials, public scholarship, and peer-reviewed academic publications

The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification in sociology, science and technology studies (STS), communication and media studies, or equivalent qualifications or research experience in a social sciences or humanities discipline. Ideally you will have specialised expertise in Science and Technology Studies and emerging home technologies.

This position offers a unique chance to shape the future of human-AI relationships and emerging home technologies while contributing to innovative research that will influence industry, policy, and the wider public.
