The Opportunity
We’re looking for a passionate and organised Research Officer with a keen interest in active transport and a desire to contribute to meaningful change.
As a key member of the Sustainable Mobility and Safety Research Group at Monash University, you’ll be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team tackling some of the most urgent challenges in public health and urban transport. You’ll support impactful research projects – whether it’s coordinating on-the-ground data collection, coordinating ethics submissions and reporting, or engaging with communities and government partners. Your work will directly support innovative projects that aim to improve mobility for all.

You’re someone who’s curious, motivated, proactive and purpose-driven. You thrive in collaborative environments, are highly organised, and are energised by work that has real-world impact. You know how to manage competing deadlines and are confident managing multiple tasks – from planning stakeholder workshops and coordinating data collection, to preparing research reports and ethics submissions – and you take pride in doing it well.
Whether your background is in public health, social science, urban planning or project coordination –what really sets you apart is your willingness to get involved, learn quickly, and contribute to meaningful work.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate the day-to-day delivery of research projects, supporting everything from ethics applications to data collection and stakeholder engagement
- Prepare reports, grant submissions, evidence summaries and communication materials to support research outputs and impact
- Build strong working relationships with researchers, community members, government partners and collaborators to ensure smooth project delivery
- Contribute to knowledge translation activities such as newsletters and stakeholder events
Your background and skills
- A relevant degree and experience supporting research or coordinating projects in public health, transport, social science, urban planning or related fields
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and work across multiple priorities
- Strong writing and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging diverse stakeholders and preparing documentation for various audiences
- A collaborative mindset, high initiative and understanding of research ethics, confidentiality and data management principles
