The Opportunity

Join Australia’s #1 Chemical Engineering Department at Monash University and be part of a pioneering research initiative at the intersection of materials science, automation, and artificial intelligence. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you’ll play a key role in the discovery of next-generation photovoltaic materials using a state-of-the-art Chemspeed Technologies automation platform, enhanced by AI-guided methods.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the global transition to net zero energy by developing and applying cutting-edge tools for autonomous materials discovery. You’ll work within the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics, collaborating with leading researchers and contributing to high-impact publications, patents, and funding proposals. Your work will directly support the development of sustainable energy technologies and position you at the forefront of AI-driven scientific innovation.

About You

You are a highly motivated and curious researcher with a doctoral qualification in science or engineering and a strong foundation in data science. You bring a passion for solving complex problems and a track record of research excellence in optoelectronic materials, machine learning, or related fields.

Your expertise includes machine learning techniques such as Bayesian optimisation, and you’re comfortable working with experimental data, high-performance computing environments, and (ideally) thin film or nanomaterial synthesis. You thrive in collaborative environments, communicate your ideas clearly, and are eager to contribute to a dynamic, interdisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of materials discovery.
