The Opportunity
Are you an early-career researcher passionate about gender equity, Indigenous studies, and transformative community-led research?
Join an interdisciplinary team at the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW). As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the landmark Future Lives and Violence Against Women (VAW) project, you will lead essential fieldwork exploring the paid and unpaid workforce resources tackling violence against women across the Pacific Island countries and Papua New Guinea.
This is a unique opportunity to co-design culturally grounded analytical frameworks, directly inform workforce training, and collaborate with key partner organisations in complex, nuanced, and culturally sensitive environments.
About the Project
The Australia Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence against Women (CEVAW) is the world’s first Centre to tackle the full range of forms of violence against women in Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. CEVAW aims to transform our understanding of the problem by examining the structural drivers that cause and compound violence against women (VAW), and pioneering new, evidence-based approaches to inform trajectory-altering practice and policy. An opportunity exists to join CEVAW as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Future Lives and Violence Against Women (VAW) workstream to contribute experience in Indigenous-centred research methodologies to our understanding of the nature of the paid and unpaid workforce in current and future Indigenous family violence sector across the Pacific and Papua New Guinea. This research will generate evidence and insights to inform the working conditions and skills of the future workforce responding to violence against women.
Why This Role Matters
In this role, you will bridge high-impact academic research and real-world outcomes by:
-
Leading On-the-Ground Research: Direct fieldwork, data collection, and qualitative data management across multiple Pacific and PNG sites.
-
Co-Designing Frameworks: Develop an analytical audit framework that respects local contexts and translates directly into training and support for the front-line Indigenous family violence workforce in the Pacific and PNG.
-
Building Future Capability: Co-supervise research support staff and mentor HDR students while contributing to CEVAW’s research training and ethics programs.
-
Publishing and Innovating: Formulate high-impact publications, present at international conferences, and contribute to competitive research funding proposals.
About You
We are seeking a collaborative, highly organised researcher with a strong diplomatic approach and deep respect for Indigenous-centred methodologies.
Key Qualifications and Expertise:
-
Education: A PhD in Indigenous Studies, Gender Studies, or a related discipline relevant to the project.
-
Community Engagement: Demonstrated experience working collaboratively, diplomatically, and ethically with Indigenous communities across the Pacific and PNG on sensitive issues.
-
Research and Methodologies: Strong knowledge of interdisciplinary and Indigenous-centred research approaches, supported by a growing track record of peer-reviewed publications.
-
Teamwork and Leadership: Ability to work both independently to meet project deadlines and collegially within an interdisciplinary team.
-
Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with experience using relevant analytical software.
What We Offer
-
Mentorship: Work directly alongside leading scholar Professor Kyllie Cripps in a supportive, high-performing research environment.
-
Collaboration: Engage directly with CEVAW Chief Investigators, Partner Investigators and international partner organisations.
-
Career Growth: Opportunities to build your publishing portfolio, apply for competitive funding, develop supervisory experience, and present at national and international forums
