About the Role

The Tropical North region is small enough to feel well connected to the community and big enough to be interesting.

We are looking for a creative, driven doer to create content for multiple platforms to engage local and national audiences. Reporting to the Editor ABC Tropical North, the role will involve:

  • Creating accurate, concise and clear digital news content.
  • Delivering digital news content across multiple online platforms.
  • Delivering original stories with impact, to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences. 
  • Contributing to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan. 

The position is based in Mackay but serves a region including Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays, the mining region west to Moranbah and Dysart and agricultural areas south to Sarina and St Lawrence.

About You

You are a highly motivated reporter with a strong knowledge of local and national news issues. Your skills and experience include:

  • Creative digital storytelling ability.
  • Sound editorial skills and judgment.
  • Strong understanding of the issues that affect and interest the diverse local audience.
