About the Role

Reporting to the MCR Coordinator VIC & TAS, you will join a collaborative team of 13 based in Victoria delivering 24-hour broadcast operations. The team provides local support across Victoria, contributes to national transmission and remote support to Tasmania, ensuring seamless delivery to audiences.

This role sits at the centre of live broadcast operations. You will operate and monitor transmission and production systems, manage switching requirements and maintain technical quality across television and radio services. You will work closely with presenters, production teams and technical stakeholders, often in time-critical environments where clarity and composure matter.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating and monitoring transmission, switching and production systems (ASI, SDI, analogue and IP environments)
  • Managing complex switching schedules and resolving conflicting instructions in real time
  • Providing first-line maintenance, program restoration and fault diagnosis
  • Logging and escalating technical issues, supporting resolution of complex faults
  • Setting up and controlling vision, audio and communication signals, including outside broadcasts
  • Contributing to small-to-medium technical projects and maintaining accurate operational documentation
  • Building strong, professional relationships with internal clients and on-air talent

This is a rostered role within a 24/7 national service and requires flexibility and reliability. As part of the ABC, you will actively model the ABC Values and uphold all governance, safety and workplace responsibilities.

About You

You are an experienced broadcast technical operator with strong transmission knowledge and sound operational judgement. You remain calm and methodical, particularly in live or high-pressure situations.

You communicate clearly and confidently, especially verbally, and are comfortable working directly with on-screen presenters and production teams. You build trust quickly and contribute positively within a team environment.

You bring:

  • Advanced experience in on-air transmission and broadcast operations
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve or escalate complex faults
  • Confidence making timely decisions in fast-moving, live environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building capability
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support a close-knit team
  • Availability to work across a 24/7 roster
