Rosebery is an underground polymetallic base metal mine located in the township of Rosebery in Tasmania, Australia. The mine is a deep, sub-level open stoping operation with complex mining conditions.
The Rosebery Mine has been at the heart of the Rosebery community since 1936 and is one of Tasmania’s largest and oldest continuously operating, underground mines producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates, as well as gold doré.
It supports approximately 500 employees and their families, has a strong community focus and engages a wide range of local businesses from across Tasmania in its supply chain boosting the economy of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.
The mine has a strong future, with extensive exploration activities which have continued to grow the resource and require mine planning beyond 10 years of continued operation.
MMG Rosebery has an office in Burnie (Tasmania), giving employees the flexibility to work from there when they are not required onsite.
Mine Geologist
We have a current opportunity for an experienced Mine Geologist at our Rosebery Underground Operation reporting into the Senior Mine Geologist.
This role will see you responsible for ensuring the efficient extraction of mineral resources by providing geological expertise and support to mining operations. This role involves conducting geological mapping, photogrammetry, ore and waste sampling, and analysis to optimise ore recovery, minimise waste, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards and production targets.
This position is offered on an 8:6 roster, residential to Rosebery or DIDO from any location in Tasmania with relocation support offered.
Responsibilities include (however not limited to)
- Daily grade control duties that minimises dilution and maximises recovery of economic resources including underground stope and stockpile inspections, surface stockpile inspections and mine reconciliation.
- Monitor and control ore quality during mining operations to ensure production targets are met.
- Implement grade control programs and provide recommendations to improve ore recovery.
- Ensure appropriate processes are being utilised and maintain for ongoing reconciliation.
- Data capture by photogrammetry and mapping for interpretation and incorporation into resource and structural models for use in Mine Technical Services whilst exploring innovative solutions in the collection of structural data underground.
- Collaborate with mine planners and engineers to optimise ore extraction and minimise dilution and contributing to short-term and long-term mine plans.
- Assist with logging of diamond drillholes.
- Support the Senior Mine Geologist in other duties as required.
- Supervision and mentoring of team members and contractors
- Demonstrate MMG’s SHEC values through personal behaviours and conversations, ensuring all activities are carried out to the highest standard of safety.
Qualifications Skills and Competencies;
- BSc (Hons) or higher in Geoscience
- Minimum of 2+ years experience in mine geology
- Exposure to VHMS or base metal deposits, with a strong understanding of complex base metal mineral systems
- Skilled in 3D Modelling, database and QAQC protocols
- Extensive management of drilling programs
- Underground grade control best practices and geological methodologies
- Planning, implementation and management of grade control duties
- Excellent communication collaboration and time management skills
- Proficient multi-tasking and rescheduling capabilities
- A proven history with safe work practises, with the ability to identify and address unsafe practices and lead by example.
