About the role

The Nuclear Medicine Fellow is responsible to the Head of Nuclear Medicine for delivering Nuclear Medicine Medical Imaging services of the highest possible standard to SAMI patients both in terms of individual performance and by contributing to a multi-disciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care, teaching and research. The incumbent is required to work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical and academic team.

Specifically, this position is primarily responsible for assisting in the provision of Nuclear Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre.

Responsibilities of the incumbent include:

  1. Provision of professional leadership to clinical staff and teaching of radiology trainees, other staff and medical students.
  2. Assisting the Head Nuclear Medicine Technologist to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Nuclear Medicine service.
  3. Performing and reporting Nuclear Medicine studies under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Consultant of the day.
  4. Active support and participation in quality improvement and quality assurance activities to ensure safe, appropriate, effective and efficient patient-centred care processes.
  5. Representing SAMI at campus meetings and liaising with clinicians regarding service provision (for example at hospital clinico-radiology / multidisciplinary team meetings and management team meetings). It is expected that the incumbent will take responsibility for at least one clinico-radiology / multidisciplinary meeting per week.
  6. A duty to support and encourage team cooperation amongst staff to optimise the level and diagnostic accuracy of the service provided.

FMC has a Nuclear Medicine department with a Siemens Symbia T16 Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) - Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, a Philips BrightView SPECT-CT scanner and a General Electric Lunar Prodigy bone densitometry unit. The Nuclear Medicine case load covers general nuclear medicine in adult and paediatric patients including adult thyroid radioiodine therapy.

Essential Requirements:

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

  • For appointment as a MD-P2: Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
  • For appointment as a MD-P3: Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Obtained a Specialist Qualification and is registrable as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration.
  • For Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) trainees: completion of RACP basic training in including written and clinical examinations.
  • For Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) trainees: completion of the RANZCR part II examination and completion of all experiential training requirements including project II.
