About the Role

Are you a visionary leader passionate about transforming mental health and prison health services? As the Executive Director, Medical Health Clinical Program, and SA Prison Health Service, you will report directly to the CEO and hold accountability for the strategic and operational excellence of these critical services within CALHN. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead diverse teams, drive innovation, and shape the future of mental health care delivery across South Australia. You will oversee acute care at prominent hospitals, community mental health programs, and prison health services across eight correctional facilities, ensuring seamless, patient-focused care that aligns with the SA Health Mental Health Service Plan and the Mental Health Act 2009.

In this dynamic role, you will lead strategic initiatives, build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in clinical, operational, and financial performance. Your responsibilities will include advancing integrated models of care, fostering a high-performance workforce culture, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and risk management standards. By providing innovative leadership and a commitment to excellence, you will play a pivotal role in shaping CALHN’s vision for delivering exceptional mental health services to diverse populations and communities.

About You:

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary leader with a passion for delivering exceptional outcomes in healthcare. To excel in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Exceptional leadership and strategic thinking, with a proven ability to lead change, inspire teams, and negotiate effectively with senior stakeholders across government, private industry, and non-government organisations.
  • Extensive experience in healthcare management, including strategic planning, program development and evaluation, workforce planning, and managing significant budgets in complex environments, preferably in mental health and custodial health services.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to conceptualise and implement innovative solutions, drive continuous improvement, and respond effectively to the challenges of complex systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the healthcare landscape, including the Australian and South Australian health systems, emerging trends, and the socio-economic and political factors influencing health service planning and delivery.

Your qualifications should include registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (MDO2) or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAES2), along with a demonstrated commitment to equity, safety, and contemporary management practices.
