About the role

As a Pathology Collector in Whyalla (OPS1 or OPS2), you will play an important part in delivering high-quality, patient-centred laboratory services. Working under close direction, this entry-level role is designed to develop your skills through hands-on training and practical experience. You’ll gain exposure to a variety of essential tasks including venepuncture, specimen collection, data entry, and preparation duties, all of which contribute to accurate and timely diagnostic outcomes for the community.

You’ll also support the smooth flow of operations by undertaking courier runs, sorting and accessioning specimens, assisting with storage and transport, and providing professional and respectful responses to both internal and external customer enquiries. With training as a key feature of this role, you will be supported to build your confidence and competence while making a valued contribution to the effective and efficient functioning of the laboratory team. About You

You will be a motivated and reliable team player who is committed to delivering high-quality, accurate work while supporting patients, colleagues, and the broader health service.

OPS1 – This level is suited to those beginning their career and looking to develop skills through structured training. You will bring:

  • A willingness to learn new skills and follow set protocols with accuracy and attention to detail

  • The ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to provide excellent customer service

  • Basic computer skills and confidence in using information systems

OPS2 – This level is suited to those with prior experience in pathology or specimen collection who can work with greater independence. You will bring:

  • The ability to use initiative and sound judgement while knowing when to escalate issues

  • Relevant experience in a pathology laboratory or specimen collection environment

  • Knowledge of pathology operations and proven ability to apply this in practice

  • Experience using information systems and databases, and managing customer enquiries effectively
