About the Role:

As a Child Protection Clinician with the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), you'll be the skilled practitioner who ensures vulnerable children and families receive the right support at the right time — working across the Lyell McEwin Health Service and the broader Adelaide Metro Northern community.
Where Your Expertise Makes a Difference
Embedded within the NALHN Child Protection team at Lyell McEwin Health Service, you will work alongside multidisciplinary clinical staff to identify, assess, and respond to child protection concerns presenting across health settings. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Conducting clinical assessments and risk appraisals for children and young people identified as at risk of abuse or neglect
- Providing specialist consultation and secondary advice to clinical teams across NALHN regarding child protection obligations and mandatory notification requirements
- Collaborating with Families SA, South Australia Police, and community agencies to coordinate care pathways and support family safety planning
- Contributing to staff education, policy implementation, and continuous quality improvement within the child protection framework
What You Bring
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work or Psychology with current registration or eligibility where applicable
- Demonstrated experience in child protection assessment and case management within a health, community, or statutory setting
- Sound working knowledge of the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and South Australian mandatory reporting obligations
- Proven ability to engage sensitively with children, families, and carers from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal communities
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills with capacity to produce clear clinical documentation under pressure
- Experience working within or alongside SA Health systems and inter-agency child protection frameworks is highly regarded
To be eligible for this position, you must have an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers OR must hold an appropriate degree (Master of Clinical, Forensic or Health Psychology) or equivalent qualification as recognised by the Psychology Board of Australia and hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
