About the Role:

The Occupational Therapist plays a vital role within the multi-disciplinary team, with the primary objective to enhance the mental health and functional independence of veterans receiving care. As an Occupational Therapist working with the veteran population, you will play a pivotal role in delivering holistic, person-centred care to support the health, well-being, and rehabilitation of this population.

As the Occupational Therapist, you will be accountable to the JLC Nurse Unit Manager and the Principal Occupational Therapist SALHN Mental Health Services. You will have access to a broader network of Occupational therapist within SALHN mental health services and will have the opportunity to collaborate across the division.

Training and education relating to mental health care for veterans’ populations will be provided during orientation and as an SA health employee, you will have access to $1000 professional development funding per year to ensure your learning needs are supported. Quality clinical supervision will be provided as per SA health’s Allied Health clinical supervision framework.

Some of your responsibilities within the unit will include: 

• Developing, implementing and evaluating a range of evidence based, work, recreation, living skills and individual programs, relevant to consumer needs, which assist consumers to develop/maintain skills for independence.
• Undertaking functional and cognitive assessment.
• Provide trauma-informed care and interventions, including sensory modulation.
• Supervise and mentor Allied Health Assistants and support staff, and at times Occupational Therapy students.
• Advocate for veterans’ needs within healthcare systems and broader community services.

About you:

• Highly motivated and have the ability to engage with consumers who have a lived experienced of trauma.
• Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia. 
• Experience in providing evidence based psychosocial Occupational Therapy interventions.
• Experience in the provision of a range of occupational therapy assessments, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and skills including individual and group work. 
• Ability to provide occupational therapy consultancy within the team and sector programs and evaluate occupational therapy outcomes.
• A commitment to evidence-based practice and values-driven care.
