About the position
La Trobe Law School is committed to fostering outstanding law and criminology professionals. The School is looking for a dedicated and dynamic early-career researcher and educator to enrich our progressive and practice-oriented Law program. Our vision is to foster a research, teaching and learning environment that prioritises excellence. Ideal for an emerging scholar with a strong foundation in teaching and research, the successful candidate will be expected to produce high-quality research outputs, successfully obtain external research funding and be committed to providing an outstanding educational experience for law students.
We offer undergraduate programs in Law and Criminology – including a range of double degrees – at La Trobe’s Bundoora and Bendigo campuses. We also offer postgraduate Law (Juris Doctor) at our city campus, Masters by research and PhD programs. Our degrees give students the skills and knowledge they need to graduate ready for the workforce. We have educational partnerships with community legal centres, law firms and criminal justice organisations that provide outstanding clinical placement opportunities to ensure students graduate with valuable workplace experience, a commitment to professional responsibility and high ethical standards
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Develop, coordinate and teach high-quality learning experiences that engage students through the conduct of tutorials, practical classes, workshops, student field excursions, and/or clinical sessions.
- Keep abreast of innovations in teaching and learning in areas such as, but not restricted to, online and blended delivery and incorporate these innovations where appropriate, in order to continually develop professional practice skills/knowledge and expertise.
- Participate in innovative course level curriculum design, development and review.
- Conduct and publish or otherwise disseminate high quality and/or high impact research as a member of a team or independently, and produce conference/seminar papers and publications from that research.
- Contribute to a robust and ambitious research culture by producing research findings for publication and dissemination.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
• PhD in a relevant discipline.
• Demonstrated competence in teaching and curriculum development.
• Evidence of high quality and/or high impact research conducted and published or otherwise disseminated, relative to opportunity.
• Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both verbally and in writing.
• High level organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.
• High level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
