About the position
A full-time position is available for a Mass Spectrometrist with expertise in metabolomics (small molecules) for an initial one-year term to support an increased demand for metabolomics services. The platform supports researchers across various disciplines, particularly in the life and molecular sciences.
Reporting to the Mass Spectrometry (Metabolomics) Specialist, the successful candidate will be based at the AgriBio Building on the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus—a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to multidisciplinary research and translatable outcomes.
The key function of this role is the provision of technical support to ensure an efficient and responsive metabolomics service for clients, including, sample extraction, derivatisation and separation techniques and small molecule mass spectrometry.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
• Thorough knowledge of mass spectrometry (associated with metabolites and peptides) and its application in chemistry, biological chemistry and/or the life sciences. A research degree that includes the use of mass spectrometry would be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated expertise in the routine operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers (particularly GC/MS, LC/MS) and associated sample preparation equipment along with experience of systematically resolving technical problems.
• Demonstrated experience in a range of sample mass spectrometry techniques, including GC/LC- MSn, multiple ionisation and derivatisation techniques, and the extraction of small molecules from biological samples.
