About the position

The School of Nursing and Midwifery undertakes a wide range of teaching and research programs in Nursing, Midwifery, Maternal, Family and Child Health, Ageing and Aged Care, Health Service Design, Health and Wellbeing, Time Critical Nursing, Mental Health, and Workforce. These interconnected programs combine to form Centres of Excellence based within our clinical networks and Research Centres.

The School is seeking a Level C academic who is an endorsed Nurse Practitioner who has expertise in contemporary nursing practice and facilitating undergraduate and postgraduate education. We are recruiting a team of Nurse Practitioners, and we are open to receiving applications from candidates who would like to be considered for a fractional appointment from 0.2FTE upwards to a full-time appointment.

The incumbent will teach in the School’s successful Master of Nurse Practitioner course, and the Graduate Certificate in Registered Nurse Prescribing.

Reporting to the Discipline Lead, Postgraduate Nursing, duties at this level will include:

  • Coordinate courses or coordinate and teach subjects providing a high-quality learning experience that engages students through the conduct of lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or other sessions in online, blended or face-to-face modes.
  • Design innovative and effective curriculum which reflects developing best practice nationally, utilising various methodologies including online and blended learning.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness by taking an evidence-based approach to evaluate learning and teaching initiatives and by guiding others towards taking an evidence-based approach.
  • Demonstrate a scholarly approach to learning and teaching by contributing to La Trobe’s SOLT including outputs relating to disciplinary teaching pedagogy and sharing of good practice through conference and seminar presentations.
  • Lead the implementation of teaching improvement projects at course, discipline,

Skills and knowledge required for the position:

  • PhD degree or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/ profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline areas.
  • Hold current endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Current or recent participation in clinical practice as a nurse practitioner.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, curriculum development and subject coordination with a commitment to excellence in teaching, as evidenced by sustained high results on student feedback on teaching surveys, teaching excellence awards or through other forms of evidence.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide leadership at course/program level.

Highly Desirable:

  • Recent clinical experience in the adult setting with generalist experience would add significant value.
  • Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or evidence of equivalent professional preparation for Higher Education teaching.
