High priority experience areas include behavioral health, asset or strengths-based community approaches, and poverty and health disparities, but candidates with scholarship expertise in other areas are also encouraged to apply. The committee will strongly consider all areas that complement current faculty research and/or needs of the State of Alabama. The position requires a Ph.D. in Social Work or a closely related discipline and an MSW. Candidates who are ABD may also apply if successful defense of the dissertation occurs prior to appointment. This is a three-year renewable, non-tenure earning faculty position (full-time, 12-month) to begin January 2025. Successful candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution, at least three years of post-MSW social work experience, and preferably licensed to practice social work at the LCSW level in Alabama or be license-eligible. Previous practicum education experience and/or classroom teaching experience are expected. Applicants should be eager to work with students in both the undergraduate and master’s programs and have interest and expertise in reaching our diverse student body through in-person and online education. In addition, applicants will engage in developing resources and building relationship with agencies needed in practicum education. The expected start date is January 1, 2025. A DSW or PhD in social work degree is preferred, though a doctoral degree in a related discipline will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who: (1) have teaching and curriculum development experience, especially as it pertains to best practices in online education; (2) have knowledge of social work evaluation methodologies and experience in evaluating practice; (3) have experience mentoring graduate students; and (4) have post-DSW/PhD practice experience.
