UNICEF Papua New Guinea, in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is implementing the Climate Action for the Last Mile in Papua New Guinea programme to strengthen the climate resilience of children and their communities through climate-smart social services and infrastructure, while strengthening climate policies, climate finance and institutional capacity. The programme works with government and other partners to support national priorities related to climate change adaptation and resilience, with a particular focus on the needs of children and vulnerable communities.
One of the main programme objectives is to strengthen the integration of child-responsive climate policies and actions into PNG’s national climate frameworks, including its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and National Adaptation Plan (NAP). In this regard, the programme recognises the importance of strengthening national capacity and coordination to ensure that climate policies and plans translate into practical and inclusive action.
