Assignment background

According to the 2023-2027 Country Programme Document and 2022-2025 Private Sector Fundraising Strategic Plan structured private sector fundraising activities are one of the core roles of UNICEF Croatia and the Country Office has been continuously integrating its programmatic, fundraising and communications efforts.

How can you make a difference?

In light of recent changes to the global funding landscape, an even stronger focus is needed on accelerating growth and achieving increasing income targets. Innovating and opening new areas will be necessary, in addition to optimizing existing channels. Consequently, the UNICEF Office has identified a requirement for additional capacity and is looking to fill a consultancy role of a Business Development and Innovation Coordinator (m/f), under the guidance and supervision of the Fundraising Manager, specifically aiming to assist in exploring and implementing innovations, new business modalities and ways of engaging audiences, as well as incorporating alternative technologies for accelerated income generation.

Work assignment

In the role of Business Development and Innovation Coordinator, you will take part in the following activities or areas of work:

  1. Support innovation work to identify new areas of focus and potential, using trends and insights to identify new income stream opportunities or audiences. Collaborating with all office sections to identify and support improvement opportunities in delivery through the effective/innovative use of technology.
  2. Review of digital Fin/Tech platforms and providers in market; lead the search for partners whose products/services match identified Fundraising needs; support and/or lead process design and/or configuration of solutions; help troubleshoot and resolve barriers.
  3. Support to priority projects: contributing to brainstorming, business cases, planning stages, but also later in preparations and executions of activations or events; networking with external partners; creating internal synergies.
  4. Support to FR activities: examine and ensure that any innovations align with internal policies and procedures and corporate guidelines for partnerships and cooperation; timely and effective administration of opportunities; support provided to team, as well as external partners; monitoring, analysis and reporting on initiatives, plans and activities.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 6 years of work experience in supporting projects is required (related experience in sales, marketing or with a tech component is preferred)
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills on similar projects
  • Good communication and strong interpersonal skills, ability to adapt to varying audiences 
  • Responsible, pro-active, driven and able to work independently and in a team 
  • Proficiency in MS Office package 
  • Fluent in English and Croatian

In addition to these required qualifications, skills and competencies, you will preferably have:

  • Established network in Fin/Tech sector

  • Eager to learn.

The position is planned as a full-time job, and the initial contract will be offered for up to 16 months, with the possibility of an extension based on successful performance and funds availability. The position contributed to the needs and results in the area of securing funds for the UNICEF Programme of Cooperation implemented in close collaboration with the Government and other partners.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein.  For this specific service, UNICEF will offer UNOPS Local Individual Contractor Agreement that includes benefits and entitlements such as leave entitlements and medical insurance, excluding pension fund contributions. The conditions of service will be governed by the contract and the General Terms and Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment.
