Biological Scientist II - Vascular Surgery 29141900 - MD-SURGERY-VASCULAR Main Campus (Gainesville, FL)
This position will execute high-throughput sample processing within the surgery genomics core, including, but not limited to, bulk and single-cell or single-nucleus RNA-seq and ATAC-seq, single-cell/nuclei isolation, DNA/RNA extraction, sample library preparation, and sequencing. This position requires knowledge of next-generation sequencing (NGS) instrumentation and sample processing, as well as experience in high-throughput molecular biology. This position will work closely with other core researchers on laboratory automation. This individual will collaborate with postdocs and laboratory staff to develop experimental plans and designs. Although not required to draft abstracts and manuscripts, it is her/his responsibility to collect, organize, and analyze the experimental data and present the results for discussion. When there is a need for techniques and/or assays that are available in the field but have not been established in the laboratory, this scientist is responsible for learning, adopting, and modifying the techniques/assays to meet the project needs. The scientist must possess strong personal skills and be able to interact effectively with a large number of faculty, clinical and research staff, as well as college and hospital administration. He/she must be able to convey professionalism and competency. The scientist will follow the directions of the PI/senior lab personnel. The PI/senior lab personnel will always be available for consultation.

Oversees access services responsibilities and the service desk and supervises student assistants during the overnight hours. Assists patrons in the use of library services, circulating tools and technology, and with computer-related problems. Directs shift change with the morning and evening staff members and with security assistants. Expectation of employment through completion of Spring 2026 semester; renewal contingent upon funding.

The University of Florida Health Pathology Laboratories (UFHPL) Ast Dir, Clinical Laboratory Operations manages the day-to-day operations and core functions of UFHPL laboratories, including triage & accessioning, client services, reporting, and logistics. UFHPL is an independent reference laboratory within the Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine that consists of the main location in Gainesville and satellite locations, including the Student Health Care Center Lab on the UF campus in Gainesville and laboratories part of UF Health Central Florida. This position works closely with the Laboratory Medical Director and Director of Health Care Administration to ensure all services provided are within the mission and scope of UFHPL and the College of Medicine. This position is responsible for development and oversight of workflows and standard operating procedures for the lab and oversees Section Supervisor duties and advancement as leaders. The position demands excellent communication, deft handling of personnel, sophisticated and comprehensive operational knowledge, proficiency in financial analysis, and insightful leadership.
