The Centre for Climate Research Singapore (CCRS) is a division of the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). At CCRS, our mission is to advance scientific understanding of tropical climate variability and change and its associated weather systems affecting Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region, so that the knowledge and expertise can benefit decision makers and the community. Our vision is to be a world leading centre in tropical climate and weather research focussing on the Southeast Asia region.

To grow a strong climate science ecosystem in Singapore that supports national needs and agenda, a new Climate Science Research Programme Office (CSRPO) has been set up under CCRS to lead and drive efforts to develop and implement a national climate science research masterplan and build up climate science capabilities in Singapore. The CSRPO will commence with an initial five-year research programme, focussed on key priority areas developed in consultation with stakeholder agencies in the Singapore Government Resilience Working Group.

As part of the CSRPO team, the Assistant Director (Climate Science Research Programme Office) will:

  • Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of the key issues in climate and weather science
  • Provide drive and support for impactful CCRS general science communications and knowledge brokering activities
  • Contribute to effective stakeholder engagement
  • Develop effective targeting and monitoring impact of external science communications
  • Help ensure CCRS/CSRPO external communications review is consistent with internal NEA processes.

Job Requirement:

  • Relevant academic degree in physical, mathematical or environmental science. Preferably with a postgraduate qualification in science communications
  • At least five years scientific research experience, including publication in journals, conference proceedings or published general science articles
  • Demonstrated proficiency in delivering science presentations to key stakeholders, including ability to engage and respond to questions in a professional, clear manner
  • Versatile and creative written communication skills, able to communicate detailed technical/ scientific information into easily understood, engaging, influential and informative article/programme to a broad audience
  • Passion for scientific research and applications through weather/climate services
  • Ability to work to deadlines as part of a diverse team
  • Ability to engage and communicate with stakeholders from diverse communities
