The Environmental & Water Technology Centre of Innovation (EWTCOI) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic is an established and dedicated setup with applied Research & Development (R&D) capabilities to provide engineering solutions and technology support for SMEs to grow their businesses and move up the value chain through innovation in new products, improved processes, and enhanced technology. EWTCOI is currently seeking a Research & Development Project Engineer to join its team in the project "Aquaporin (AQP) mass production". The AQP-based biomimetic membrane technology is ready for practical applications if large-scale production can be realised. This is a funded research project with collaboration with NTU aims to scale-up the production of high quality of AQP for AQP-based biomimetic membranes applications including water reuse and desalination:

  • Benchtop bio-fermenter operation  
  • Bacteria mass cultivation and harvesting
  • AQP protein extraction, purification and characterisation
  • Proteolipsome production
  • Purity analysis and quality control
  • Analyse and document data/findings for project meetings and progress reports
  • Assist senior staff to manage project administration and funding as well as project procurement

* This will be a fixed-term appointment till 31 Mar 2022.


  • Strong knowledge in microbiology science
  • Experience in bacterial cultivation and protein purification
  • Experience in processes optimisation is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively and independently
  • Good written and oral communication skills
