Do you love books, being systematic and analytical, and being able to work independently in a quiet and engaging environment?

The National Museum of Singapore, an institution under the National Heritage Board, is Singapore’s oldest museum and a key cultural and architectural landmark. The museum’s Resource Centre is a rich repository for publications, journals, multimedia and images related to Singapore’s history, heritage and culture. It plays a key role in preserving, building and making these important resources available for education, research, and celebrating our shared heritage and identity.

In this role, you will be part of a dynamic team that is passionate about Singapore’s heritage and culture. You will also have the opportunity to gain and hone specialised knowledge in library systems and copyright assessment that is essential for the role. On-the-job training will be provided, although prior knowledge of library systems and/or copyright law would be an advantage.

 Responsibilities

  • Assess and process requests for images in the National Museum’s collection, including but not limited to:
    • Liaise with requesters;
    • Retrieve images from database(s);
    • Copyright risk assessment;
    • Submit assessment for approval;
    • Prepare and submit billing statement if required;
    • Work with digital team to enhance and streamline the image request process.
  • Manage the National Museum’s Resource Centre, including:
  • Catalogue and accession library books;
  • Purchase new books and sign up for/renew online subscriptions;
  • Shelve books;
  • Administer the issue and return of loans;
  • General curatorial support, and other library related duties.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years working experience, preferably with a background in library science/systems and/or working knowledge of copyright law
  • Meticulous, highly organised and detail oriented
  • Keen sense of assessment and judgement
  • Competent and comfortable working on tech programmes, apps and systems, and able to quickly pick up computer skills and knowledge
  • Able to work independently, willing to learn and multi-task and handle multiple concurrent image or library requests
  • Possesses good time-management skills, positive attitude and good teamwork, excellent communication and writing skills
  • Keen interest in history, heritage and culture
