Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Science Fellowship Gambier, OH
Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, where academic excellence goes hand in hand with a strong sense of community, invites applications for a Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in the sciences, beginning July 1st 2026. The Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in the sciences program is for scholars who have recently completed their doctoral work (no more than five years past the PhD graduation date) and are at the postdoctoral level. We hope the experience of teaching, researching, and living for two years at Kenyon will encourage these Teacher-Scholars to consider a liberal arts college as a place to begin their careers as teachers and scholars. Fellowships will be awarded in: Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics as well as in interdisciplinary work that bridges departments (e.g., Biochemistry, Environmental Science). To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at http://careers.kenyon.edu. A complete application will be composed of 1) a cover letter discussing the applicant’s interest in a teaching/research career and eligibility for the fellowship; 2) a Curriculum Vitae; 3) a ~2-page statement of the applicant’s research and scholarship clearly indicating the field or discipline; and 4) contact information for three professional references. Unofficial graduate transcripts will be requested of candidates who advance to the interview stage. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website: http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin on December 15th, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.
Postdoctoral fellow in Biology Gambier, OH
The Biology Department at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, 3-year post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Karen Hicks. This position is funded through an NSF RUI grant to uncover the molecular mechanisms governing seasonal reproductive development in the moss Physcomitrium patens. We are using a combination of forward and reverse genetics, coupled with genomic and transcriptomic approaches, to isolate key genes involved in this process and build a molecular framework for this pathway, which appears to be distinct from that in flowering plants. Specifically, we are using an unbiased mutagenesis screen to identify necessary components of seasonal regulation and evaluate their spatial and temporal regulation. In addition, we are using CRISPR mutagenesis to test the hypothesis that one or more photoperiod-dependent genes serve as inducers of reproductive development. Finally, we are employing quantitative trait genetics to discover genes that underlie natural variation in reproductive timing observed across P. patens strains from different geographic regions. To Apply, please email Karen Hicks (hicksk@kenyon.edu) with questions. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Start date is flexible. To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at https://careers.kenyon.edu. Applications should include a cover letter (1-2 pages) addressing past research experience, scientific interests, and professional goals as they relate to the position, curriculum vitae, unofficial graduate transcript and contact information for three references. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled.
