Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Science Fellowship

Gambier, OH

Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, where academic excellence goes hand in hand with a strong sense of community, invites applications for a Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in the sciences, beginning July 2025.
One of the most significant challenges confronting small liberal arts colleges in the United States today is increasing the members of underrepresented groups teaching at such institutions. A diverse faculty benefits students, faculty, and administrators alike by enriching the nature of the education experience for all. We recognize, though, that young scholars who are members of underrepresented groups frequently choose to pursue their careers as teachers and scholars at research universities rather than at small liberal arts colleges. In order to encourage such scholars to consider college rather than university teaching, Kenyon College offers the Kenyon College Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in the sciences.
To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at http://careers.kenyon.edu. A complete application will be composed of 1) a cover letter discussing the applicant’s interest in a teaching/research career and eligibility for the fellowship; 2) a Curriculum Vitae; 3) a ~2-page statement of the applicant’s research and scholarship clearly indicating the field or discipline; and 4) contact information for three professional references. Unofficial graduate transcripts will be requested of candidates who advance to the interview stage. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website: http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin on November 1st, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.

The Biology Department at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, 3-year post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Natalie Wright. This position is funded through a CAREER grant from the NSF to study why many species of birds exhibit sexual dimorphism in flight muscle size, but many others do not, and to understand how sexual dimorphism in flight muscle size impacts flight in wild birds. This project, spanning evolutionary ecology, morphology, and flight biomechanics, offers the successful applicant a chance to learn new research skills while building upon familiar ones.
The postdoc will conduct research; collect, analyze, and synthesize data; present their work at conferences; and publish papers. The postdoctoral fellow will develop the skills necessary to succeed in a tenure-track position through collaboration on undergraduate teaching and student mentoring with Dr. Wright.
Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. in biology or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of prior research experience and publications, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a strong background in ornithology, evolutionary ecology, or flight biomechanics.
All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website: https://careers.kenyon.edu. Please email Natalie Wright (wright1@kenyon.edu) with questions. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Start date is flexible, but around July 1st, 2025 is preferred.
Applications should include a cover letter (1-2 pages) addressing past research experience, scientific interests, and professional goals as they relate to the position, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. |
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Polymers Synthesis and Degradation

The Chemistry Department at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Yutan Getzler. This position is funded through a Research at Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) grant from the NSF to study controlled polymer degradation. The immediate goal for our NSF-funded program is synthesis and characterization of linear and cyclic polyesters via ring-opening polymerization of commercially available and novel lactones using coordination compounds. Several variants of the novel lactones are in hand on multi-gram scales and their syntheses are well developed. Initial conditions for polymerization of commercially available monomers are established. This position is especially well suited to those interested in pursuing a career as a teacher-scholar at a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI).
All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website: https://careers.kenyon.edu. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Prof. Getzler (getzlery@kenyon.edu).
Applications should include a cover letter (1-2 pages) addressing past research experience, scientific interests, and professional goals as they relate to the position, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references.
