About This Role:

The Accountant III manages the University's fixed assets accounting system including analyzing assets that meet capitalization threshold, tracking CIP, and communicating updated information to campus departments. Oversee sales tax reporting, excise, and motor fuel tax remittances. Oversee all vendor set up activities, to include determination of the taxable status of each vendor. Additionally, oversee position responsible for local agency check-writes and Financial Information System (FIS) interfaces. Assist with nonresident alien tax reporting and 1099 creation.
This position is responsible for supervising two full-time employees. Supervisory duties of employees include annual performance reviews, goal setting, reporting of time worked and time off for payroll, assisting staff in interpreting and answering questions not clearly defined by the Policies and Procedures Manual (PPM), and communicating with staff University, State, and IRS changes to policies and procedures. The positions supervised are responsible for the daily processing of all payment documents, including printing local agency checks, and setting up vendoring within the FIS and state accounting systems, and monitoring the vendor portal.
Responsible for overseeing University-wide compliance with sales tax, motor fuel tax, and Federal excise tax regulations, and researching specific Federal and or State tax issues as required by central administration. This includes providing guidance, answering questions, and preparing the required tax documents and reports. Provide feedback on what areas need improvement and provide training to the University.
Other duties as required, but not limited to monitoring the general accounting email, identify and submit Service Now tickets related to Decisions and Eforms, creating post-audit reports, conducting systems training and testing for new system functionality, responding to departmental and vendor inquiries, telephone answering, filing, check mailing, data entry, and mail duties.
