About This Role:

The Grant Specialist is responsible for all aspects of pre-award research administration with a focus on proposal preparation and processing, including budget development, review and certification, reviewing for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and university policies, meeting sponsor requirements; assistance to and consultation with faculty and administrators involved in the University's extramural grant and contract activities, with backup support provided in the area of grant and contract development, review and negotiation for such issues as intellectual property rights, insurance, liability, indemnification, consistency with federal and state laws, regulations and University policies. Responsible for the development and review of electronic proposals to Federal agencies and other sponsors as prescribed by the particular agency.

PAS personnel assists with:

  • Ensuring that subsequent applications or proposals for funding are developed in accordance with funding agency criteria
  • Proposal preparation, including budget development, preparation of forms, editing, review (i.e., comparison with funding agency guidelines and requirements, compliance with University and Board of Regents policies and procedures, and state and federal regulations)
  • Final electronic document submission through various official portals
  • Preparation and negotiation of grant and contract documents with funding agencies
  • Gathering information and solving problems with other campus units, such as purchasing, accounting, personnel, etc.
  • Obtaining campus approvals
  • Questions regarding all aspects of non-financial research administration
  • Post-award administrative issues such as extensions of the project duration, rebudgeting, change in scope, and other project modifications
  • Preparing and negotiating subcontracts for those projects containing this requirement
  • Finding past history of proposal submissions and awards or finding informational reports

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (or work equivalent)
  • Minimum of one to three years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, such as a M.B.A., with an emphasis on accounting or finance
  • 3 years experience in Grants and Contract Administration
  • Certified Research Administrator certification
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills-experience; experience in the interpretation and application of guidelines, statutes and regulations

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$43,870 - $55,930
