About this Role:

The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Associate. This position is necessary to expand the scope of our research on Ehrlichia, Anaplasma and Rickettsia species to promote the development of novel directions in generating research funding from foundations, industry and federal funding agencies. In particular, this position is critical in advancing the goals of the new center in progress in DMP, the Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Diseases.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research as per the project goals as assigned by Dr. Roman Ganta. Conduct research also in collaboration with members of Dr. Roman Ganta’a group with a special focus on vector-borne diseases.
  • Organize the data for presentations at seminars, scientific meetings and for preparing manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Assist in preparing manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Assist in preparing grant proposals to generate funding for independent and collaborative research. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students associated with the Ganta’s research team.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree
  • 2 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in microbiology or related field
  • Five or more years of research experience with evidence of publications in peer-review scientific journals
  • Two or more publications in the subject area relevant to the vector-borne diseases, particularly on tick-borne diseases
  • Cell culture
  • Molecular biology methods such as DNA isolation, real-time PCR, Southern blotting, RNA isolation and analysis, protein isolation, immunoblot analysis, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy, and studies involving working with vertebrate animals and ticks

Salary Range / Pay Rate:

$ 46,030 - $ 80,530 annual salary
