About This Role:

Employment as a temporary Custodial Specialist with the Department of Housing and Dining Services in a large residence hall dining center, offers the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a team-oriented environment performing entry level custodial tasks. Our staff support the academic success of our students and provide a positive visitor experience for University guests. 

Our dining centers serve more than 3500 meals per day. That's a lot of cleaning, sanitizing, and preparation to ensure a quality dining experience for each of our customers.

Work is limited to no more than 999 hours in a 12 month period.  Work hours are based on operational needs.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Cleans food preparation areas, serving lines, dining rooms, hallways, stairwells, restrooms, entrances and exits, storeroom, vegetable preparation area, and docks by sweeping, wet mopping, waxing, and buffing floors; emptying trash; general dusting and cleaning. 

  • Cleans and sanitizes tableware, trays, utensils, pots, pans, and equipment used in meal preparation and service. 
  • Operates and cleans equipment in ware washing area and dish return belts.  
  • Trains and directs student employees in the execution of cleaning tasks and ware washing and in the care and maintenance of equipment used.  
  • Performs other duties including, but not limited to, assisting with storekeeping and inventory, removing snow and ice from entrances.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • None

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year custodial experience
  • Knowledge of large scale food operation including sanitation procedures, equipment and methods used in custodial work
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and reliability

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Completion of HACCP Food Safety training and Bloodborne pathogens training upon employment
  • This position is considered essential during a Declaration of Inclement Weather for the Manhattan campus when meal service is scheduled in the dining centers

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$11.79 - $12.50 per hour.  Some shifts may be eligible for $.60 per hour shift differential pay.
