About This Role:

The Southeast Regional Research and Extension Center in Parsons, Kansas, is seeking an Extension Specialist for Family and Consumer Sciences. The person selected for the position will provide leadership for Extension agents in SE Kansas providing programming in family and consumer sciences, including, but not limited to, nutrition, family community health, family life, aging, food safety, parenting, communication, financial management, leadership, health and safety.  The person selected will provide transformational leadership and support for extension initiatives, including community-based education and policy system and environmental change (PSE) approaches that address social determinates of health.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in a Family and Consumer Sciences, nutrition subject matter, Master of Public Health (MPH) or closely related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish shared goals. 
  • Demonstrated ability in designing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating community-based initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize electronic communication and computer applications necessary for program development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Demonstrated ability in coaching professionals and providing professional development.
  • Demonstrated success in partnerships and collaborations with external organizations and agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience with Cooperative Extension.
  • Education, training and interest in nutrition, community health, family and child development.
  • RD (Registered Dietitian); LDN (Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist)
  • PhD in an FCS subject matter, nutrition or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success in extramural grant writing.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$70,000- $90,000
