About This Role:

The College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University is seeking a full-time academic advisor. The college has a centralized advising model with 4 advisors who serve approximately 800 students. The advising team’s overarching mission is to enhance student success by providing individualized and comprehensive advising services that meet the needs of a diverse student population. The academic advisors work very closely with the other Student and Administrative Services staff and academic departments.

 

Student Services

• Serves as the primary guide for students from recruitment to graduation: providing academic advising to both prospective and enrolled students; assists students in developing an academic plan, understanding and completing degree requirements and completion of appropriate coursework; and, advising students on college and university policies and procedures.

• Assists students who are having academic or personal difficulties, including connecting them with appropriate community and campus resources.

 

Communications

• Maintains student advising records and provides data to liaison department for accrediting reports, public information requests and other reports.

• Creates online and print information and materials for prospective and current students and revises materials and resources as needed.

 

Team Member

• Serves as an advocate for students.

• Serves as a resource for faculty and works closely with them.

• Serves as a liaison to a college department and communicates any changes or issues affecting students, faculty and staff

• Serves on college and university committees; leads, as appropriate.

• Develops and implements activities and programs to support and enhance student success and retention as needed and appropriate.

• Participates in professional development and lifelong learning activities that contribute to the overall advising program and the college mission.

 

Administration

• Works closely with the Graduate School to ensure compliance with expectations of both the undergraduate and graduate component of our degree programs. Does the following process related duties: Graduate School Applications, Grad Checks, Program of Study management, Graduation Clearance, Grade Entry Management, Curriculum Guide Updates, DARS updates, and International Study DARs exceptions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated advising or teaching experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm for constantly evolving work environment and aptitude for learning new skills.
  • Ability to develop and sustain collegial and professional working relationships and demonstrate strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and capacity to with institutional systems.
  • Excitement for and commitment to student development in rigorous and creative academic programs.
