About This Role:

We are seeking a post-doctoral scientist to conduct on-farm and in-lab research on planting systems for the on-going projects including one funded by USDA-AFRI under the Critical Ag Research and Extension program. The projects aim to develop insights into the capabilities of currently available innovative planting technologies, develop best management practices through on-farm-experiments, and identify opportunities for new innovations. The selected candidate will manage the planting systems research which includes planning field projects, coordinating with producers, equipment and instruments management, designing experiments, selection of sensors, developing and managing data acquisition, managing graduate students, oversee data collection, write reports, support graduate students with directions for data analysis and presentation, and provides direction to planting system research.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biological and Agricultural engineering, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with planting and seeding technology currently utilized by producers in the U.S. for corn, soybean, and wheat.
  • Demonstrated ability to write manuscripts for publication in refereed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer programs for the analysis of field data.
  • Experience with sensors, DAQ system, machine vision systems, GPS, CAN BUS, and equipment for planting systems research.
  • Excellent organization, written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience working with soybeans.
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical techniques.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$48,000 - $52,000 annual salary
