About This Role:

Kansas State University seeks a collaborative leader to be the Department Head of Statistics. The Department Head will provide strategic leadership in the implementation of a strategic vision that will unlock potential and enable the department to thrive in an interdisciplinary research environment at a dynamic R1 land-grant university, and establish the department as a leader in both modern theory and application of statistics. The successful candidate should have credentials for appointment at the full professor rank, including a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, a history of high-quality teaching, and a national/international reputation for scholarship and leadership. In particular, we are looking for

  • An established leader with connection and previous service to the major professional societies that support the statistics profession (e.g. ASA, ISI, etc.).
  • A leader committed to student success and upholding the highest quality teaching standards for the department for both service and major classes.
  • A leader that will enable, support, and inspire the current faculty to strategically grow and modernize our undergraduate and graduate programs in Statistics and Data Science.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for further developing the external funding base of the department, fostering excellence in teaching, research, and other professional activities, mentoring junior faculty, strengthening interdisciplinary connections, supporting extension and outreach as appropriate for a land-grant university, and further advancing diversity in all aspects of departmental activities. Desirable qualifications include excellent interpersonal skills, administrative and leadership experience including budgeting, and a track record of securing extramural funding. Although primary responsibility for this position is administrative, the successful candidate will be encouraged to engage in teaching/advising and/or maintain a research program appropriate in the department.

The Department Head serves as chief administrative officer of the department and is appointed by the Dean of Arts and Sciences. The Head, with the aid of appropriate departmental committees, is responsible for recommendations for appointments, promotions, contract renewals, tenure, salary increases, and dismissals.
