Assistant Scientist
About This Role
The Clinical Sciences Department at the College of Veterinary Medicine is in search of a Research Assistant/Associate Scientist. The Associate Scientist will support microbiological research activities in the laboratory by assisting with the collection and preparation of samples for bacterial isolation and identification. Responsibilities include the preparation of media, reagents, and chemicals required for bacterial assays, as well as conducting antimicrobial susceptibility testing of bacterial isolates. Additional duties include isolation of bacterial genomic DNA, preparation of DNA samples for downstream analyses, and general laboratory maintenance such as managing bacterial strain inventories, updating freezer logs, and maintaining accurate laboratory records.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in bacterial isolation, culture techniques, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Proficiency in molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.
- Experience with data management, statistical analysis, and preparation of technical reports or scientific manuscripts.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining laboratory records and inventories.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and standard operating protocols.
