Fellow (Post Doc)

About This Role

Kansas State University's Department of Entomology seeks a Fellow Post doc. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, postdoctoral fellow position to assist in performing field work (tick and fly collections on and off animals, aid in cattle blood sample collections).

Duties/responsibilities:

  • Assisting principal investigators (PIs) to design and perform laboratory experiments, collect and analyze research data.
  • Perform field work (tick and fly collections on and off animals, aid in cattle blood sample collections).
  • Perform DNA extractions and PCR to detect bovine pathogens.
  • Conduct microscopic examination and molecular characterization of collected sample.
  • Write and maintain lab SOPs.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety, animal welfare, and fieldwork safety regulations.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Prepare research reports, manuscripts, and presentations for scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., DVM) in a field related to the assigned responsibilities.

The degree requirement is necessary to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in entomology or a related discipline with relevant coursework in entomology, biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, and/or bioinformatics.
  • Research experience in Entomology, chemical ecology, behavioral ecology, molecular biology, bioinformatics and/or functional genomics using insects as experimental organisms;
  • Excellent organizational, and written and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred licenses / registrations / certifications:

  • Drivers license
