Diagnostic Technician I - Bacteriology
About This Role
This position exists to process diagnostic specimens and utilize selective media preparations to enhance the isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria and to conduct antibacterial sensitivity testing. This employee will assist the laboratory supervisor and other collect faculty in ongoing research projects by isolating and selecting pure colonies of bacteria for identification and pathogenicity studies and refer to reference laboratories where appropriate. The person in this position analyzes this information and translates it into a report for our clients.

This position is On-site.
All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and two years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year experience with diagnostic microbiology
- Experience in veterinary diagnostic setting preferred
- Ability to work well with people
- Ability to work weekends as needed
- Ability to know the differences in pathogenic vs. non-pathogenic bacterial growth
- Computer skills and ability to use a database software package
- Knowledge of handling pathogens
- Organization and communication skills
