As the Manager of Security Operations, you’ll lead a diverse team of technical professionals dedicated to protecting UA's data and systems; including providing direction, coaching/mentoring, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You are the primary point of contact and responsible person for all threat and vulnerability management efforts throughout the UA System. In this position, you will lead collaborative efforts to improve our security posture, innovate creative solutions, and build partnerships within the university for a more secure future.

To thrive in this role, you’ll have extensive experience implementing and managing security tools and technologies, including nextgen firewalls, endpoint protection, logging, etc., as well as a solid understanding of regulatory requirements affecting higher education, including CMMC, DFARS, FERPA, HIPAA, GLBA, and PCI. Strong leadership experience is a must, as well as a willingness to pitch in for on-call and incident response. Your demonstrated experience developing reference documentation will benefit our team for years to come, and your leadership skills will benefit our full-time and student employees alike.

Minimum Qualifications:

We require a bachelor's degree and six years of progressively responsible IT/information security experience, OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience to meet the challenges of this position.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold a current ISC/2 CISSP certification; candidates without this certification will be required to certify within the first 12 months of employment.

This position requires that the successful candidate obtain a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security clearance, which will be initiated after being hired by the UAF Police Department and involves a fingerprinted background check performed by the Alaska Department of Public Safety and successfully completing CJIS Security Awareness Training.

Position Details:

This position is part of the University of Alaska (UA) System Office (SO) located on the Troth Yeddha' Campus in Fairbanks, AK, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. We have a preference for candidates to be strongly connected to the university and state of Alaska so that they can participate and experience everything that the state and university have to offer. While there may be an opportunity for remote work (outside of Alaska) dependent on experience, we are seeking applicants who will report to work in Alaska.

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience.
