Join our team as the Director of Military and Veteran Services (DMVS) and lead a dynamic, data-driven department dedicated to providing top-tier support to military-affiliated students, including active duty, dependents, retirees, ROTC, and veterans. In this pivotal role, you'll recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team, set clear performance goals, and drive accountability to ensure our students receive the best possible experience. Additionally, you will support and coordinate UAF's strategic relationships with the Department of Defense (DoD).

This position collaborates with enrollment management efforts across UAF, creating and implementing sustainable strategies for superior customer service. You will also develop veteran and active duty aid certification strategies to ensure compliance with complex rules and regulations. Networking and collaborating with external stakeholders, including legislators, military installation commanders, veteran associations, and all levels of the University, will be key to building effective relationships and communication strategies.

To thrive in this role: You must possess exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with a strong ability to engage in both public speaking and small group settings. A deep understanding of the U.S. military and the educational opportunities available to service members is crucial. Demonstrated leadership and decision-making abilities, coupled with strong writing, editing, and team-building skills, are essential. A proven track record in project management, with experience in ensuring compliance with complex rules, regulations, and procedures, is necessary.

You should be adept at coordinating and scheduling both large and small events, with the ability to multitask and lead projects to successful completion. Creativity, confidentiality, and strong cross-cultural communication skills are key attributes, along with the ability to present the University positively to diverse populations. Experience in developing and implementing office policies, procedures, and long-term strategic plans will be critical to your success. Proactively addressing issues and recommending effective solutions is expected.

Familiarity with the unique needs of a student-centered environment is preferred. Additionally, you must be able to adapt to changing work conditions, manage competing demands, and handle unexpected events while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related field and five years progressively responsible higher education experience and three years management experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

In depth knowledge of the US military and the educational opportunities afforded to the military.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt staff position with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
